Dr. Guillermo F. Camacho Pérez

Specialist in Cervical Cerclage

What is it?

It is the surgical treatment used for the condition where the cervix is slightly more open, extending the risk to a miscarriage or preterm birth. Sutures or synthetic tape may be used to reinforce the cervix during pregnancy in women with a history of short cervix.

The type of procedure can be:

Transvaginal cervical cerclage: Performed through the vagina, without the need for an external incision.

Transabdominal cervical cerclage: One or more small incisions are made in the abdomen. Prior diagnosis is required to determine if the patient is a candidate for surgery and what type of procedure is appropriate for the case.
